5464 - EARLY GRADUATION GUIDELINES
- Early Graduation
- After Seven (7) Semesters: If a student desires to graduate early after seven (7) semesters of high school, then the student must submit his/her application for early graduation to the high school principal between July 1 and September 1 preceding the January graduation. This allows the early graduation committee time to consider the grades from all semesters through the past spring semester.
- After Six (6) Semesters: If a student desires to graduate early after six (6) semesters of high school, then the student must submit his/her application for early graduation to the high school principal immediately after the fourth semester of grades are determined but prior to December 1. This allows the early graduation committee time to consider the grades from four (4) semesters with two (2) remaining.
- The student must complete all graduation requirements as identified in Board Policy 5460.
- The student must present a detailed plan of how the student will complete any/all remaining credits required for graduation that the student must complete in his/her final semester(s).
- A written and set plan must be provided demonstrating the student’s plans for work, postsecondary education, military or other similar plans. Supporting documentation must be provided upon request confirming these set plans. For example, if the student is planning to attend a four-year university a semester early, an acceptance letter from the university indicating the university’s approval for the student to start a semester early may be required.
- A review board consisting of the high school principal, the student’s counselor, and the superintendent or his/her designee will review the merits of each application. The review board shall either recommend or deny the approval of the request for early graduation. Applications that are denied advancement for school board consideration may be appealed through a formal request to the school board. The school board then takes final action.
- Students who are granted early graduation cease eligibility in clubs, sports, and co-curricular activities at the end of their final semester in school attendance.
- Students who graduate after six (6) semesters shall cease eligibility for class rank and scholarships. Students who graduate after seven (7) semesters still qualify for class rank but may cease eligibility for scholarships. Their eligibility will be determined based on the individual scholarship stipulations.
