3124.01 - PERFORMANCE BASED COMPENSATION
The Board of Education places great emphasis on employee performance and supports a system of performance-based compensation.
Effective January 4, 2010, Section 1250 of the Michigan revised school code requires school districts to implement merit pay for teachers and school administrators based on a combination of their performance evaluation rating and other contributions the teacher or administrator has made to the District.
The District will use a rigorous, transparent, and fair evaluation system for all teachers, which will include annual year-end evaluations for all teachers, except as otherwise provided by Michigan law.
The Superintendent is responsible for implementing a method of compensation that includes job performance and job accomplishments as a significant factor in accordance with Section 1250.
If a teacher receives an "effective" or "highly effective" rating on their annual year-end evaluation, along with other factors, then they may be eligible for additional compensation.
The discontinuance or reduction of performance-based compensation paid pursuant to this policy and Section 1250 of the revised school code is not a demotion under the Michigan Teachers’ Tenure Act.
