5230.01 - EARLY RELEASE FOR WORK

Any senior that presents proof of employment, parent permission, and secures the certification of the MHS guidance counselor, may request permission to be released early from school for the purpose of employment. No student will be excused before 11:35 AM. Any student participating in the work release program must complete the application form and be taking necessary coursework for the first five (5) periods of the school day. In order for seniors to qualify for this release they must have earned two graduation sealsĀ and be on schedule to graduate on time.

The application requires the following:

  1. student name

  2. place of employment

  3. nature of employment

  4. certification of employer that early release is warranted

  5. certification of parents that they support and approve the early release

  6. certification of the guidance counselor that the student can complete all required graduation requirements ON TIME, even with the participation in the early release option

  7. approval of the high school principal

Applications for early release must be submitted to the high school principal.

The student is responsible to turn in proof of continued employment by the first day of each month to the guidance counselor. This proof will be a completed form and a check stub. Failure to turn in their forms by the 15th of the month will result in student returning to a full day of school. If a student becomes unemployed, or if their schedule no longer warrants the early release, then student must return to a full day of school.

If a student participating in the early release option experiences failing grades that places them at risk of not graduating, their privilege of participating in early work release will be revoked.

At the discretion of the school administration, any student participating in the early work release option may have their privilege revoked if:

  1. they become a discipline problem in school

  2. they have excessive absences from school

  3. they do not maintain passing grades in scheduled classes

  4. they become unemployed or experience a schedule change making the option unnecessary

  5. they abuse the privilege of the early release

  6. or any other factor that the administration determines is a justifiable reason to revoke the privilege of participation.
