3433 - VACATION

The Board of Education believes that it is beneficial to the District that personnel employed to work twelve (12) months per year be given periodic relief from the responsibilities of their job without loss of compensation.

The Board reserves the right to specify the conditions when not otherwise covered by the terms of a negotiated agreement under which vacation time may be taken.

  1. Eligibility

Vacation time will be granted to all twelve (12) month employees in accordance with what is stated in each employee's employment contract.

  2. Application

Eligible employees must apply for vacation to the Superintendent. Special consideration shall be given to emergencies.

  3. Time of Vacation

Vacations will be granted only at times of the year when they will not interfere with the normal operation of the school, but in no case may more than one (1) week vacation be granted while students are in attendance at school without Board approval except as noted in Section D, following.

  4. Termination of Employment

An employee who anticipates termination or retirement in this District may take accrued vacation prior to the termination or retirement date with proper approval as note, ante.

  5. Accrued Vacation

Accrued vacation shall be paid to the statutory beneficiary of a deceased employee, to a retiring employee, or to a terminating employee.

Unused vacation, upon separation from employment, will be paid at the employee’s current rate of pay but not to exceed the prorated portion earned, but unused for the current year.

  6. Carry Over

Employees may carry over a maximum of five (5) days of unused vacation to the next year. Prior approval must be requested by the employee in writing to the Superintenden
