3218 - STAFF-STUDENT RELATIONS

Taking a sincere professional interest in students is commendable and should be practiced by all members of the school staff.

Excessive informal or social involvement with individual students is not in accordance with good professional practice. Any action or comment by a member of the school staff which might be interpreted as an invitation to pursue such a course of action is considered highly unethical and is strongly disapproved by the Board. The implications of such a practice could lead to undesirable consequences, including criticism of staff, teachers, and administrators who allow such practices to exist.

Based upon the above philosophy, members of the professional staff should act accordingly. Staff members should not date or give the appearance of dating student(s). The administration should discuss guidelines with staff members for dealing with social activities or engagements with a student or group of students.
