1400.48 - JOB DESCRIPTION – SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Job Title:

Speech/Language Pathologist

Time Schedule:

183 Days

As per annually adopted salary schedule

Description:

Identify, diagnose and appraise specific speech/language disabilities; provide speech/language services for rehabilitation or prevention of communicative disabilities; provide guidance to parents/students/teachers regarding speech/language disabilities.

NOTE: The following list is not ranked in order of importance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure safety of students.

  2. Encourage and help targeted students in the selection of high interest speech/language material and computer material.

  3. Work with students individually and in small groups.

  4. Aide students with their tasks, read to students, conduct activities that work to maintain previous teaching.

  5. Assist students with classwork.

  6. Help children with program materials.

  7. Assist with recess supervision, restroom breaks, and so forth.

  8. Assist students with make-up work if absent.

  9. Promote good social relationships between children.

  10. Prepare materials for class projects.

  11. Grade papers.

  12. Distribute communiquės to be sent home with children.

  13. Make school related telephone calls to parents.

  14. Supervise general housekeeping duties.

  15. Handle correspondence.

  16. Keep permanent records up to date.

  17. Serve as a liaison person to promote good public relations between the impaired student(s), staff, and faculty.

  18. Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy.

  19. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g. student records; free/reduced lunch forms; student test scores.

  20. Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.

  21. Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.

  22. Attend meetings and in-services as required.

  23. Identify children with speech and language disabilities.

  24. Diagnose and appraise specific speech and/or language disabilities.

  25. Refer medical or other professional attention necessary for rehabilitation of speech or language disabilities.

  26. Provide speech or language services for the rehabilitation or prevention of communicative disabilities of at least one (1) session of twenty (20) minutes per week.

  27. Provide counseling and guidance to parents, children and teachers regarding speech or language disabilities.

  28. Assist in the development of curriculum guides and local policies as related to speech and language disabilities.

  29. Serve as consultant to classroom teachers.

  30. Provide in-service for school and community related to speech and language disabilities.

  31. Attend professional in-service meetings.

  32. Attend all IEP meetings of students assigned.

  33. Establish and implement a system of documentation of student progress and other data as required.

  34. Maintain classroom/materials in a neat and orderly manner.

  35. Request consultant services from supervisors for special areas of concern.

  36. Complete other work assignments as given by the building principal and/or special education supervisor necessary for the successful operation of the speech and language program.

  37. Follow the Southern Local School District's procedures, rules and policies.

  38. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four (4) year college or university.

  2. Appropriate State of Ohio certificate or license.

  3. Prior experience preferred.

  4. Pass the required criminal background checks prior to hire date.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.

  2. Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e. being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days except calamity days.

  3. Occasional interaction among unruly children.

  4. Occasional requirement to travel.

  5. Occasional evening/weekend/summer work.

  6. Frequent and regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel and stoop.

  7. Frequent requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds.

  8. Frequent repetitive hand motion.
