1400.47 - JOB DESCRIPTION – PSYCHOLOGIST

Job Title:

Psychologist

Time Schedule:

213 Days

As per annually adopted salary schedule

Description:

Conduct individual evaluations which may be traditional or intervention-based to assist school staff and parents; effectively meet the academic, behavioral and social- emotional needs of children; consult with educational staff to develop individualized learning or behavioral plans for students.

NOTE: The following list is not ranked in order of importance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Must be available to staff and parents for consultation.

  2. Counsel individually and in groups with children, disabled students and/or their parents.

  3. Provide screening programs for children.

  4. Provide referral to and consultation with outside service agencies.

  5. Conduct individual psych-educational evaluations of children referred to the Pupil Services Department, interpret findings, when appropriate, to parents, teachers and other school personnel and child and qualified community organization.

  6. Participate in the identification and placement of disabled children.

  7. Recommend appropriate classroom management strategies for behavior management.

  8. Responsible for implementing new practices or methods in the area of school psychology.

  9. Attend meetings and in-services as required per negotiated agreement.

  10. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.

  11. Provide the results of psycho-educational evaluation for consideration in the development of IEP's for each disabled student.

  12. Provide intensive psycho-educational evaluation of individual children identified as, or thought to be, disabled.

  13. Assume case manager responsibility for individual students for the assessment phase and evaluation team report writing portions of child study. May also be responsible for tracking student progress and conducting periodic observations.

  14. Maintain accurate and complete records as required.

  15. Provide guidance to students to promote their educational development.

  16. Collaborate with colleagues.

  17. Attend educational field trips.

  18. Refer students suspected of learning difficulties to the intervention assistance team.

  19. Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life.

  20. Observe the ethics of the teaching profession.

  21. Keep abreast of all rules and regulations regarding special education standards.

  22. Perform all other duties as assigned and/or approved by the Superintendent.

  23. Follow all Southern Local School District policies and procedures.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Promote good public relations.

  2. Provide mental health activities for children within the scope of school- based practices.

  3. Maintain Medicaid logs.

  4. Serve as role model for students.

  5. Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner.

  6. Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.

  7. Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other educational materials.

  8. Participate in committees, study teams, and co-curricular activities as agreed upon.

  9. Participate in intervention assistance team meetings.

  10. Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current of relevant issues.

  11. Counsel, advise, encourage and motivate students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters degree or equivalent from a four (4) year college or university.

  2. Appropriate State of Ohio certifications/licenses.

  3. Such alternative to the above qualifications as Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to work effectively with others.

  2. Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

  3. Effective, active listening skills.

  4. Organizational and problem solving skills.

  5. Specialized skill in evaluation procedures.

  6. Ability to operate various office equipment.

  7. Basic skills in counseling and consultation.

  8. Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology.

  9. Computer/Word Processing skills.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Occasional evening work.

  2. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.

  3. Occasional interaction with unruly students.

  4. Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g. computer keyboard, calculator, writing.

  5. Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, climb and stoop

  6. Occasional travel, e.g. attending workshop outside of District, evaluation, assessment, IEP and placement, meetings outside of District.

  7. Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to work on all scheduled school days except calamity days.

  8. Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds.
