POSITION OVERVIEW:
This administrative position is established to function as the Director of Special Education. This position will direct all staff as they perform the instructional and supporting needs for each identified child within the special education program. This position is responsible for all equipment, supplies, and materials that are a part of the program. The Director will:
Perform duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
Report monthly (or more often as needed) on the status of the special education program.
Maintain a good working relationship with the public and staff.
Maintain a personal appearance that reflects professionalism.
Works with those who are responsible for the classroom and its properties to assure an environment of the highest quality of health and safety.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Ohio administrative certificate for the position with a major concentration in special education.
Master's degree in education or other appropriate field, or higher.
At least five (5) years successful experience in education, with at least two (2) years in administrative or supervisory capacity.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate and acceptable.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attends Board of Education meetings and prepares and presents such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request.
Supervises, evaluates and coordinates the programs offered through Ohio Department of Education unit allocation.
Attends all Individualized Educational Program (I.E.P.) meetings and recommends placement.
Recommends suspensions and/or expulsions to the appropriate principal/superintendent if/when necessary. This pertains to those students assigned with I.E.P. within the Director's area of responsibility.
Coordinates State and Federal report preparation in the areas of special education.
Serves on District and other committees as directed by the Superintendent.
Works with county and State agencies as required to further the job goal.
Assists the Superintendent and Treasurer in preparation of the annual budget.
Maintains liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the school district.
In cooperation with the Treasurer, calculates excess cost figures that should be assessed to sending school districts for special education services.
Assists in the screening of candidates for employment in the programs under this title.
Keeps informed of new techniques and research in the field of special education through participation in local, State and National professional organizations and meetings.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Superintendent may assign.
