1400.43 - JOB DESCRIPTION - BAND DIRECTOR

RESPONSIBILITY:

The Band Director is responsible to the middle school and the high school principals and the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certification.

  2. Displays integrity, loyalty, and hard work as attributes for all to strive towards.

  3. Knowledge of the health and safety related aspects of the activities.

  4. Willingness to give time, beyond that required, for group activities and to aid individuals as necessary.

  5. Ability to work with parents, students, and community organizations, as well as athletics and administrative personnel.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

To generate interest and enthusiasm in music through a well organized program. To teach instrumental skills, as well as an appreciation of the art of music.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. After school practices (all types).

  2. Football games (marching band).

  3. Marching band festivals and competitions.

  4. Home basketball games (pep band).

  5. Solo and Ensemble contest (middle and high school).

  6. Large group band contest (middle and high school).

  7. Parades.

  8. Miller Middle and High School concerts - (minimum of 2 per year).

  9. Follow the county approved course of study and District approved curriculum guide for music.

  10. Develop and utilize instructional materials, media, and techniques appropriate to the subject matter and ability levels of students.

  11. Recognize individual differences in students and provide for those differences through a variety of instructional modes.

  12. Inform students and parents of teacher expectations and subsequently enforce classroom policy fairly and consistently.

  13. Conduct conferences with parents on a timely and needed basis throughout the school year.

  14. To complete building requisitions for any expenditures to be made through this group's activity account.

  15. Keep instruments, music, and equipment in proper order.

  16. Purchase equipment, music, and repair services through proper fiscal procedures.

  17. Submit building and transportation request in a timely manner.

  18. Coordinate music boosters' assistance with short and long term needs of the band program.

  19. Coordinate publicity for band activities.

  20. Plan and execute appropriate summer practices to prepare for community activities and football season.

  21. Publish basic rules for proper student participation in band activities.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Complete other professional responsibilities as necessary and assigned.

  2. Conducts other duties related to the advisor's duties as assigned by the principal.
