RESPONSIBILITY:

The Flag Corps Advisor, in performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the high school principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma.

  2. Familiarity with music and flag-corps performance.

  3. Ability to relate positively with staff, administration, parents, and student participants.

  4. Criminal investigations clearance.

Other Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Certification in one or more fields of education by Ohio Dept. of Education.

  2. Previous experience in Flag Corps as a participant or advisor.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Flag Corps Advisor coordinates and plans Flag Corps performances as a performance adjunct to the instrumental music program. S/He plans and supervises all Flag Corps practices, and coaches students during Flag Corps performance/competition.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Makes students aware of Flag Corps activities through scheduling and announcements.

  2. Solicits student participants (approximately 4-8 per year) based on try-outs.

  3. Schedules and supervises student practices on two (2) to three (3) occasions weekly on nonschool time during months of activity (usually July-November).

  4. Coordinates and plans performances in cooperation with the high school band.

  5. Assists student participants with their skills and routines.

  6. Assists student participants by providing training at summer band camp.

  7. Coordinates one (1) to three (3) Flag Corps Fundraisers per year as needed, and supervises the approval, budget, and ordering associated with fundraising activities.

  8. Assists students to select and order Flag Corps attire and equipment.

  9. Coordinates participation of the Corps in games, parades, and other events where appropriate.

  10. Makes arrangements for transportation and notification of parents when students travel to parades, events, or competitions.

  11. Assumes responsibility for the conduct of participants while they are engaged in Flag Corps activities either at their own school, or at other locations.

  12. Accompanies participants to and from event(s).

  13. Submits a roster of participants to the high school principal.

  14. Prepares summary of activity for the media and/or school news as appropriate.

  15. Notifies principal of Flag Corps activities, and of the annual completion of activities.

  16. Other duties as appropriate to the activity and assigned by the principal or Superintendent.

EDUIPMENT OPERATED:

  1. Flags and other equipment associated with performances.

  2. Communications equipment (i.e., phone system) and other basic school office equipment.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Interaction among crowds and students.

  2. Possible exposure to ankle injury or other such injuries associated with marching.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with negotiated agreement(s).
