1400.39 - JOB DESCRIPTION - NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY ADVISOR
RESPONSIBILITY:
The National Honor Society Advisor, in performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the high school principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Skill at planning and organization.
Interest in and dedication to academic pursuits.
Public speaking ability.
Ability to relate positively with staff, administration, parents, and student participants.
Criminal investigations clearance.
Other Desirable Qualifications:
Certification in one or more fields of education by Ohio Dept. of Education.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The National Honor Society Advisor coordinates and plans National Honor Society activities in order to encourage student scholarship, leadership, and service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Makes students aware of National Honor Society activities through scheduling and announcements.
Conducts regular Honor Society meetings.
Assists students to prepare and maintain an activity budget.
Organizes and conducts one (1) Society fundraiser per year.
Oversees the implementation of service projects.
Facilitates the nomination and selection of National Honor Society students.
Ensures that selection procedures are in accordance with NHS guidelines as disseminated by the national headquarters.
Assumes responsibility for the conduct of participants while they are engaged in National Honor Society activities either at their own school, or at other locations.
Monitors performance of NHS student members as per NHS guidelines.
Collaborates in the annual Perry/Morgan Senior NHS Recognition Conference with other advisors and county office personnel.
Orders supplies for induction ceremonies and graduation.
Submits a roster of participants to the high school principal.
Prepares summary of activity for the media and/or school news as appropriate.
Notifies principal of National Honor Society activities and of the annual completion of activities.
Maintains Bertha Levion Chapter records.
Coordinates Chapter events: Induction ceremony in April; Senior Recognition Conference in November; and Graduation in May.
Other tasks appropriate to the activity as assigned by the principal or Superintendent.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Communications equipment (i.e., phone system) and other basic school office equipment.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Interaction among crowds and students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with negotiated agreement(s).
