1400.35 - JOB DESCRIPTION - HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK ADVISOR
RESPONSIBILITY:
The Yearbook Advisor, in performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the high school principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Well-rounded academic preparation, particularly in English and spelling.
Knowledge of fundamental journalism rules.
Successful previous experience in dealing tactfully with youth.
Ability to relate positively with staff, administration, parents, and student participants.
Criminal investigations clearance.
Other Desirable Qualifications:
Certification in one or more fields of education by Ohio Dept. of Education.
Knowledge of typography, page layouts, croppings, and photography.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Yearbook Advisor coordinates development of the annual high school yearbook as a learning experience for students in publishing a finished work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Makes students aware of yearbook activities through scheduling and announcements.
Solicits student yearbook staff (approximately 15 per year).
Assists with preparation of yearbook activity budget.
Supervises students in the solicitation of yearbook advertisements to businesses and individuals.
Prepares pay-ins and listings of advertisers from student sales.
Draws up dummy ads for each patron and submits these for patron approval if needed.
Assists students in selection of yearbook specifications.
Oversees picture-taking for all school events --- throughout the year.
Engages and works with professional photographer for group pictures.
Assists students to compile stories, facts, statistics, etc. to make the yearbook a complete reflection of the year in review.
Oversees the preparation of dummy pages and type sheets.
Assists students with layouts.
Requests payment from advertisers whose commitments are in arrears.
Receives and verifies proofs of yearbook pages during the summer.
Oversees sales of yearbooks and completes records of receipts issued and cash deposited.
Announces distribution of completed yearbooks.
Oversees distribution and confirmation of books received.
Keeps the high school principal informed as to yearbook activities.
Other tasks as appropriate to the activity and assigned by the principal or Superintendent.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Camera equipment.
Communications equipment (i.e., phone system) and other basic school office equipment.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Interaction among crowds and students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with negotiated agreement(s).
