1400.34 - JOB DESCRIPTION - STUDENT COUNCIL ADVISOR (Grades 9-12)
RESPONSIBILITY:
The Student Council Advisor, in performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the high school principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Knowledge of student government and concerns.
Leadership ability, as demonstrated in previous work record.
Skill in interpersonal communications, and in facilitating such communication among students.
Ability to relate positively with staff, administration, parents, and student participants.
Criminal investigations clearance.
Other Desirable Qualifications:
Certification in one or more fields of education by Ohio Dept. of Education.
GENERAL DESCRIPTI0N:
The Student Council Advisor provides adult leadership for the Council of Student Governments (COSA), a student leadership group for grades 9-12. S/He works to promote student leadership, student government activities, and student input into school operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Makes students aware of COSA activities through scheduling and announcements.
Oversees the election of class representatives to serve as annual COSA group of approximately twenty (20) students.
Schedules and supervises student meetings on one (1) to two (2) occasions monthly, or more often if specific projects are underway.
Organizes meeting agenda.
Assists students to generate ideas for fundraisers and student events.
Oversees fundraising activities, budgets, and receipts (approximately two (2) to three (3) major and two (2) to three (3) smaller projects per year).
Assists students with the implementation of projects.
Completes activity budget, pay-ins, and requisitions for expenditures.
Assists students in selecting, planning, and carrying out annual service project (i.e., food or clothing drives).
Makes arrangements for student participation in the annual Leadership Academy (October).
Facilitates opportunities for student leadership and input into school operations.
Coordinates projects with local agencies and officials.
Makes arrangements for transportation and notification of parents when students travel off campus for COSA events.
Assumes responsibility for the conduct of participants while they are engaged in COSA activities either at their own school, or at other locations.
Accompanies participants to and from COSA activities.
Submits a roster of participants to the high school principal.
Prepares summary of activity for the media and/or school news as appropriate.
Notifies principal of COSA activities, and of the annual completion of activities.
Other tasks as appropriate to activity and assigned by principal or Superintendent.

Button maker.
Communications equipment (i.e., phone system, PA).
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional exposure to students, some of whom may be unruly.
