1400.32 - JOB DESCRIPTION - JUNIOR CLASS ADVISOR

RESPONSIBILITY:

The junior class advisor, in performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the high school principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma.

  2. Skill and experience at recordkeeping and budgets.

  3. Leadership ability, as demonstrated in previous work record.

  4. Skill in interpersonal communications, and in facilitating such communication among students.

  5. Ability to relate positively with staff, administration, parents, and student participants.

  6. Criminal investigations clearance.

Other Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Certification in one or more fields of education by Ohio Dept. of Education.

  2. Prior experience and a "common sense'' approach to fundraisers.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The junior class advisor provides adult leadership for the Junior class in their activities, including sponsorship of the annual prom.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Oversees the preparation and monitoring of activity budgets.

  2. Prepares requisitions for needed supplies for fundraisers as well as activities.

  3. Prepares fundraising documentation and submit to the Treasurer's office.

  4. Locates and purchase supplies as needed for activities, concessions, or other fundraisers.

  5. Makes students aware of junior class activities through scheduling and announcements.

  6. Keeps students at the vocational school informed of and involved in class activities.

  7. Schedules and supervises class meetings.

  8. Oversees the election of class officers.

  9. Assists students to generate ideas for fundraisers and student events.

  10. Oversees fundraising activities, budgets, and receipts (approximately three (3) major projects per year in addition to concessions).

  11. Assists students with the implementation of projects such as daily after-school concession sales and girls volleyball and basketball games.

  12. Coordinates special events with designated groups (i.e., Men's Alumni Tournament; Co-Ed Volleyball Tournament).

  13. Oversees football and basketball homecoming activities.

  14. Supervises dances held after home football and basketball games.

  15. Works with outside personnel such as musicians for dances, professional fundraisers, and special event groups.

  16. Makes arrangements for transportation and notification of parents when students travel off campus for class events.

  17. Assumes responsibility for the conduct of participants while they are engaged in class activities either at their own school, or at other locations.

  18. Coordinates the efforts of volunteers, parents, and others who may assist with class activities.

  19. Selects prom themes, activities, vendors, and suppliers.

  20. Involves students in prom preparation, planning, and decoration.

  21. Supervise prom activities.

  22. Coordinates any post-prom trips or activities (i.e., post-prom trip to King's Island or Cedar Point).

  23. Other tasks as appropriate to activity and assigned by principal or Superintendent.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

  1. Concessions equipment.

  2. Communications equipment (i.e., phone system, PA).

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Occasional exposure to students, some of whom may be unruly.
