1400.31 - JOB DESCRIPTION - TECHNOLOGY COORDINATOR

Position:                             Technology Coordinator

Reports to:                          Superintendent

Employment Status:             Regular/Full-time

Description:Administer the District’s technology program. Evaluate the ability of the program to meet the learning needs of all students. Provide leadership in the development of innovative plans to improve the technology program. Provide training and support to help staff and students benefit from technology applications. Actively encourage parent and community involvement.

NOTE:  The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related technology field is desirable.
  2. Possession of a valid State of Ohio teacher’s license with a computer technology endorsement is desirable.
  3. Meet all current health requirements.
  4. Evidence of a clear record as determined by the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  5. Training/experience with standard computer operating systems and architectures (i.e., installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair).
  6. Training and experience with common network operating systems.
  7. Knowledge about the selection and use of software appropriate for diverse instructional settings and user abilities.
  8. Commitment to continuing education to keep current with technological advances.
  9. Strong organizational and planning skills. Effective communication skills and the ability to work with students, faculty, and the community.
  10. Available to work a flexible schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Directly accountable to the Superintendent for the effective organization, management, supervision, and evaluation of the District’s technology team. Serve on assigned committees.
  2. Maintain a positive workplace attitude and demeanor.
  3. Collaborate with others in a positive manner.
  4. Provide leadership to determine the relevance of technological advances. Work with administrators, staff, and community volunteers to periodically review and revise the District’s continuous improvement plan as it relates to technology.
  5. Develop with administration a strategy to implement the District’s technology plan. Ensure that the apportionment of technology resources is equitable throughout the District.
  6. Develop and recommend policies governing the application and use of educational technology. Ensure compliance with all licensing agreements.
  7. Regularly advise the Superintendent and administrative team about emerging issues.
  8. Coordinate ongoing technology training programs for staff.
  9. Coordinate ongoing technical support services for building-level technology staff.
  10. Serve as a contact for vendors. Maintain a library of product information and current catalogs.
  11. Prepare budget recommendations that maintain the highest quality of service attainable within the available financial resources.
  12. Recommend the purchase of new software and equipment based on substantiated instructional and administrative needs.
  13. Prepare technology research and development grant proposals. Administer grants. Prepare and disseminate reports as directed.
  14. Coordinate the purchase of new equipment to ensure hardware and software compatibility. Prepare competitive bid specifications.
  15. Coordinate the receipt, inspection, installation, testing, and inventory of new equipment and software.
  16. Coordinate the installation of computer wiring and connections (e.g., servers, hubs, routers, etc.). Provide assistance installing classroom equipment.
  17. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of the District’s technology resources. Prepare logs and support documentation (e.g. location, date installed, upgrades, etc.).
  18. Set up and maintain file servers (e.g. users and groups, space allocations, backups, etc.) for local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN).
  19. Ensure that equipment is operational and available for use as needed. Oversee the maintenance and routine cleaning of the equipment. Make or arrange for repairs. Maintain repair records
  20. Identify and recommend outside vendors, contractors, and installers. Coordinate contracted services. Schedule, inspect, and sign off on work performed.
  21. Discard outdated or nonfunctional equipment following approved procedures for the disposal of fixed assets. Maintains a salvage pool of useful parts.
  22. Notify staff about new acquisitions. Arrange for software previews.
  23. Work with staff to address computer security (e.g., consent forms, records, maintenance, student's use of e-mail and the Internet, equipment storage, etc.).
  24. Serve as a resource for staff and students seeking additional information or trying to improve skills.
  25. Manage District level technology-related communications (e.g., inquiries, mail, e-mail, announcements, news releases, questionnaires, etc.).
  26. Monitor and administer local, State, and Federal technology programs and initiatives.
  27. Serve as the District liaison for instructional technology to supporting organizations (e.g., data acquisition sites, OILTS, OECN, FCC, etc.).
  28. Oversee the preparation of technology equipment at the beginning of the year and storage of equipment at the end of the year.
  29. Maintain an ongoing communication program with District administrators (e.g., bulletins, memos, meetings, etc.) to communicate information about technology plans.

  31. Seek and use resources that enhance educational activities (e.g., parent groups, volunteers, government programs, colleges and universities, community service organizations, professional associations, businesses, etc.).
  32. Recognize the value of leadership participation in national, State, and regional activities (e.g., professional associations, advisory committees, etc.).
  33. Participate in professional growth activities to keep current with advances in knowledge and trends in education and technology.
  34. Serve as a role model for students. Demonstrate responsibility, citizenship, respect and courtesy.
  35. Perform other specific job-related duties as directed.

  13. Lifting, carrying and/or moving technology supplies and equipment.
  14. Reading and interpreting regulations, manuals, instructions, diagrams, etc.
  15. Climbing and working from a ladder or other equipment requires balancing skills.
  16. Working in confined spaces that limit physical movement.
  17. Punctual and able to maintain a good attendance record.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Manage the supervision and evaluation of all assigned technology personnel as authorized by Board policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
  2. Occasional interaction with agitated or upset individuals.
  3. Occasional interaction with disruptive or unruly students.
  4. Occasional exposure to student commotion.
  5. Occasional operation of a vehicle.
  6. Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  7. Work under stress to meet schedules and deadlines.
  8. Work cooperatively with others.
  9. Considerable telephone contact and paperwork required.
  10. Duties may require occasional work during the evening and/or weekend.
  11. Duties require operating power tools.
  12. Frequent exposure to electrical hazards.
  13. Occasional exposure to airborne particulates, fumes, and odors.
  14. Occasional exposure to cleaning solvents and chemical vapors.
