RESPONSIBILITY:
The food services/cashier, in the performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the principal or other administrator assigned to his/her supervision, and to the food services manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Mathematical competence and skill in money handling sufficient to handle cashier responsibility.
Ability to be covered for insurance purposes as a school money handler.
Capability of performing food service duties, including the ability to lift 30 1bs. and the ability to spend extended time standing.
Ability to meet communicable disease requirements for food services/health department clearance.
Demonstrated skill at keeping accurate financial reports and preparing cash for deposit.
Criminal investigations clearance.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The food service/cashier is responsible for accounting for meals served in accordance with local policies and procedures and State and Federal food service guidelines. This includes accounting for meal tickets, cash sales of food, and free and reduced lunch use. S/He also assists with food service set-up, meal preparation, clean-up, and other related duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serves as cashier on the food service line.
Accepts and accounts for cash, tickets, or other verification of meal payment/exchange.
Verifies the type of meal served (i.e., Type A lunch or ala carte selection) for the purpose of record keeping and compliance.
Accounts for meals served by completing summary reports.
Prepares cash for deposit.
Assists where needed with food service set-up and actual meal preparation.
Assists with food services, utilizing appropriate procedures of:
quantity and quality meal preparation
efficient serving
service offerings to student and adult consumers
sanitation
inventory
housekeeping
Maintains orderly, clean, and safe work areas.
Assists in supervising student help in the cafeteria.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interacts with students, school staff, and visitors in a manner that is positively responsive to their needs.
Performs other duties as assigned by the food services manager or supervising administrator.
Works in accordance with District policies and procedures as well as State and Federal regulations for school food services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Previous experience in food service, preferably commercial settings.
Demonstrated skill in mathematics and money handling.
Service record that reflects positive interpersonal relationships, experience with school-aged children, and sensitivity to student needs.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Multi-department cash register.
Variety of food service and preparation equipment including steamers, ovens, slicers, and refrigeration equipment.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures (proximity to ovens and refrigeration).
Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
Occasional exposure to high noise levels.
Occasional interaction among unruly children.
Exposure to chemicals and food substances.
Occasional lifting of heavy objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As specified in employee's contract and in keeping with the negotiated agreement.
