1400.28 - JOB DESCRIPTION – ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Position: Assistant Athletic Director
Reports to: Athletic Director/Principal
Employment Status: Regular

Evaluation: Evaluated once annually by those administrators that supervise.
Responsibility:
The assistant athletic director, in the performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the athletic director and to the high school principal.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Valid Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit
- Comprehensive knowledge of interscholastic athletic program regulations
- Available to work irregular hours and/or non-traditional schedule.
- Dependable and flexible in assisting students.
- Ability to handle large amounts of money.
- All other qualifications as assigned by the administration and in accordance with the law.
Performance Responsibilities
- Assists Athletic Director in administering the district’s interscholastic athletic program. Ensures that all junior high athletes receive appropriate instruction, support, and opportunities to participate. Provides support, guidance, and accountability to help students benefit from program participation.
- Assists in administering community use of athletic facilities.
- Attends and coordinates all required athletic events while acting as an administrator and district representative.
- Advances the district’s professional image. Maintains open/effective communications. Uses problem-solving techniques to tactfully address and resolve questions/concerns.
- Works with Athletic Director with requisitions for program supplies/equipment ensuring that the program resources are equitably apportioned and within budget constraints.
- Assists Athletic Director in oversight on the ongoing maintenance program to protect and preserve program resources (e.g. buildings, grounds, equipment, etc.).
- Pursues funding opportunities.
- Monitors interscholastic athletic regulations. Facilitates compliance with directives. Participates in due process procedures as requested.
- Participates in coaching staff selection and orientation processes. Verifies that all junior high coaches are properly qualified (e.g. coaching certifications). Review the Coaching Manual, procedures, and schedules with coaches before the start of the season.
- Secures game officials, and home game personnel (timers, scorekeepers, announcers, field staff, ticket sellers/takers, etc.) for all junior high athletic events.
- Works with Athletic Director to process payment for game officials and athletic workers.
- Develop and distribute a junior high program calendar. Coordinates junior high scheduling to ensure the efficient use of the district facilities. Publicizes junior high athletic activities.
- Verifies junior high scholastic eligibility. Promotes academic success as an important priority for all students.
- Arranges junior high student-athlete transportation with the athletic program secretary.
- Works as a liaison with youth sporting programs.
- Maintains a professional appearance. Wears work attire appropriate for the position.
