RESPONSIBILITY:
The Drama Club Advisor, in performance of his/her duties, is directly responsible to the high school principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma.
Certification by Ohio Dept. of Education in one or more areas of communications: i.e., English, Speech, Drama.
Successful previous experience with play production, either as an advisor or a performer.
Ability to relate positively with staff, administration, parents, and student participants.
Criminal investigations clearance.
Other Desirable Qualifications:
Certification in one or more fields of education by Ohio Dept. of Education.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Drama Club Advisor coordinates and plans Drama Club activities/performances as an extra-curricular academic activity for students. S/He plans and supervises all Drama Club practices, work sessions, and performances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Makes students aware of Drama Club participation options through scheduling and announcements.
Solicits student participants (approximately 5-15 per year) based on interest and commitment to practice.
Schedules and supervises student practices and drama activities.
Coordinates and plans performances/presentations in cooperation with volunteers, other interested school staff, community members, and the administration.
Assists student participants with their individual communication skills through activities, practices, and drama events.
Sets guidelines for student participants consistent with school policies and procedures.
Makes arrangements for transportation and notification of parents when it is necessary for students to travel as part of a drama event or activity.
Assumes responsibility for the conduct of participants while they are engaged in Drama Club activities either at their own school, or at other locations.
Accompanies participants when activities are away from the school.
Makes arrangements for royalties and meeting of other requirements associated with drama productions.
Oversees the Drama Club Activity budget, including processing of pay-ins, requisitions, and expenditures.
Completes request forms and conducts 1-3 Drama Club fundraisers per year as needed.
Checks out appropriate facilities and areas to be utilized for drama activities.
Clears dates and schedules of drama activities in advance with the administration.
Works with school staff, community agencies, parents, or other interested persons in acquiring necessary production equipment, costumes, and materials.
Submits a roster of participants and content of production material to the high school principal.
Prepares summary of activity for the media and/or school news as appropriate.
Notifies principal of Drama Club activities and of the annual completion of activities.
Other tasks associated with the activity as assigned by the principal and Superintendent.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research and preparation of drama/production material as appropriate in terms of content and student skill level.
EOUIPMENT OPERATED:
Stage lighting, sound system, and associated production equipment.
Communications equipment (i.e., phone system) and other basic school office equipment.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Interaction among crowds and students.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with negotiated agreement(s).
