1400.11 - JOB DESCRIPTION – ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Position:                                           Athletic Director

Reports to:                                       Principal

Employment Status:                       Regular

NOTE:   The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Evaluation:  Evaluated once annually by those administrators that supervise.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Valid Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of interscholastic athletic program regulations
  4. Available to work irregular hours and/or non-traditional schedule.
  5. Dependable and flexible in assisting students.
  6. Strong Leadership and communication skills.
  7. Ability to handle large amounts of money and maintain a budget.
  8. All other qualifications as assigned by the administration and in accordance with the law.

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Administrate the district’s interscholastic athletic program.  Ensures that all athletes receive appropriate instruction, support, and opportunities to participate.  Provides support, guidance, and accountability to help students benefit from program participation.
  2. Obtains and maintains all district, conference, Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and any other governing body required documentation and certification from students and coaches.  This should be done in compliance with district policy and procedures.
  3. Works to establish and maintain a student athletic code of conduct as well as the creation and distribution of district athletic policies and procedures.  Ensures the athletic code of conduct, student handbook, and district policies are being implemented and followed by those involved with the athletic program.
  4. Attends and coordinates all required athletic events while acting as an administrator and district representative.  Secures, welcomes, and directs game officials, home game personnel (timers, score keepers, announcers, field staff, ticket sellers/takers, custodial staff, etc.), police, Emergency Medical Technicians, as well as other district resources for athletic events.
  5. Provides and coordinates with coaches on student-athlete awards and accolades.
  6. Administrate community use of athletic facilities.
  7. Advances the district’s professional image.  Maintains open/effective communications.  Uses problem-solving techniques to tactfully address and resolve questions/concerns.
  8. Provides an effective public relations program in conjunction with the administration for the athletic program.
  9. Attends conferences and clinics as well as pursues proper and timely professional development and qualifications.
  10. Ensures that the athletic program maintains that the program resources are equitably apportioned and within a proper budget.
  11. Ensures and coordinates with administrative support, building principals, and/or the Treasures office with the district-approved purchasing process for program supplies/equipment ensuring that the program resources are equitably apportioned and within budget constraints.
  12. Works with Building and Grounds Supervisor to protect and preserve program resources (e.g. buildings, grounds, equipment, etc.).
  13. Pursues funding opportunities.
  14. Monitors and implements interscholastic athletic regulations set forth by the athletic conference, the OHSAA, the Southern Local Board of Education, and/or any other governing bodies.  Facilitates compliance with directives.  Participates in due process procedures as requested.
  15. Maintain a proper and healthy relationship with supporting booster organizations.
  16. Participates in coaching staff selection and orientation processes.  Verifies that all coaches are properly qualified (e.g. coaching certifications).  Review the Coaching Manual, procedures, and schedules with coaches before the start of the season.
  17. Conducts and maintains records of midseason and end-of-season evaluations on all varsity coaches.  Maintains and ensure that varsity coaches conduct end-of-season evaluations on all assistant coaching positions.  Recommends employment status of all coaches.
  18. When appropriate, develop and maintain improvement plans for coaches.
  19. Processes payment for game officials and athletic workers in accordance with the approved district process.
  20. Develops, maintains, and distributes an athletic program calendar and schedule.  Coordinates with junior high and non-athletic events to ensure the efficient use of the district facilities.  Publicizes athletic activities.  Establishes, maintains, and/or approves, with the aid of coaches, practice, and training schedules for all athletic programs and facilities.
  21. Verifies and maintains athletic eligibility for all student-athletes.  Promotes academic success as an important priority for all students in conjunction with the School Counselor.
  22. Arranges athlete transportation in accordance with district policy.
  23. Works as a liaison with youth sporting programs.
  24. Coordinates and works with all administration staff members as well as the assistant athletic director.
  25. Maintains a professional appearance.  Wears work attire appropriate for the position.
  26. Performs such other tasks necessary for the operation of his/her department and/or assigned by the administration.
