5430 - CLASS RANK

Class rankings shall be maintained starting with the ninth (9th) grade and continuing through the twelfth (12th) grade. Only full-time students shall qualify for class ranking status. Semester grades shall be used to calculate grade point average (GPA) for class rank. Only high school level subjects approved by the Board of Education, or its designee, shall be included in computing semester grades. The high school grading system shall be unweighted and based on a 4.000 grade point scale, with letter grades computed to a numerical value based on credits earned. The point system used is:

A 4.000
A- 3.667
B+ 3.333
B 3.000
B- 2.667
C+ 2.333
C 2.000
C- 1.667
D+ 1.333
D 1.000
D- 0.667
F 0.000

The following provisions apply when determining class rank:

  1. Grades received by students for courses taken at an accredited Wisconsin technical college or university for dual credit or high school credit shall be included in determining the student's GPA.

  2. Grades obtained from another high school shall be included.

  3. Grades, except for pass/fail, received by students for courses taken at other public high schools or approved alternative programs shall be included in determining the student's GPA.

  4. A passing grade for a pass/fail course will reflect credit on the transcript, but will not be used to determine GPA.

  5. Grades received by students for courses taken through home-based private educational program instruction will not be used in determining GPA. Students who do follow an accredited home-based program or have documented supervised instruction equal to the number of hours required by the DPI per semester will receive credit for the courses and they will be used in calculating GPA.

  6. Grades transferred in from another school will not be weighted in any way.

  7. The valedictorian and salutatorian will be full-time students at Shiocton High School for three (3) semesters or more, including the two (2) semesters of their graduation year.

The School District of Shiocton shall not discriminate in the methods, practices and materials used for evaluating student on the basis of gender, race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, creed, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, or mental, physical, emotional or learning disability or handicap.
