5421 - GRADING
The Board of Education recognizes its responsibility for providing a system of grading student achievement that can help the student, teachers, and parents judge properly how well the student is achieving the goals of the District's program.
The Board believes that the District's grading system should be a reliable system and one that ensures each student's grades signify accurately his/her degree of accomplishment of those expected learning outcomes which are to be stated for each program at every grade level K-12.
The Board directs the District Administrator to develop procedures for grading in accordance with Policy 2260 - Nondiscrimination and Access to Equal Educational Opportunity which:
develop clear, consistent criteria and standards particularly when grades are based on subjective assessment;
help each student understand in each course or program what behavior and/or achievement is needed to earn each grade as well as what will produce a failing grade;
provide frequent opportunities for each student to obtain information as to his/her progress toward the learning goals of his/her courses or programs;
provide for a pass/fail grade in programs where appropriate;
provide students the opportunity to assess both their own achievements and their areas of difficulty.
The grading system should not inhibit the professional staff member from learning each student's individual strengths and weaknesses.
The grading system should be subject to continual review by staff, students, and parents. Revisions shall be made only when changes will assure a more valid or reliable or clearer system of grading.
The teacher responsible for a student's instruction in a particular course or program shall determine the student's grade. That grade may not be changed without the teacher's consent unless overruled by the District Administrator.
High/Middle School Grading System

| B+, B, B- | = | Course objectives achieved in a highly satisfactory/above average manner |
| C+, C, C- | = | Course objectives achieved in a satisfactory/average manner |
| D+, D, D- | = | Course objectives achieved below average/minimum manner |
| F | = | Course objectives not achieved-no credit granted |
| I | = | Incomplete work |
| W | = | Student has withdrawn |
| P or F | = | Student is enrolled in a pass/fail course, credit only |
The high school grading system shall be unweighted and based on a 4.000 grade point scale, with letter grades computed to a numerical value based on credits earned. The point system used is:

| B+ | 3.333 |

| B- | 2.667 |
| C+ | 2.333 |
| C | 2.000 |
| C- | 1.667 |
| D+ | 1.333 |
| D | 1.000 |
| D- | 0.667 |
| F | 0.000 |
The middle school grading system shall be unweighted and based on a 4.000 grade point scale, with letter grades computed to a numerical value. The point system is:

| D+, D, D- | = | 1.0 |
| F | = | 0.0 |
The grading scale used for the middle and high school grades will be as follows:

| C- | = | 70-72 |
