5310.01 - ACCESS TO EMERGENCY NURSING SERVICES
To provide for the protection of the students, the District shall make available emergency nursing services during the regular school day and during all school sponsored activities of students. Emergency nursing services available during school sponsored activities of students may include:
- response by a school nurse
- use of red backpack w/First Aid kit and related needs (upon request by school employee)
- response by a coach, advisor, teacher, or other staff member trained in First Aid/CPR (MS/HS level)
- response by an EMT or by EMS members accessible by calling 9-1-1
- response by police/fire/rescue services accessible by calling 9-1-1
- access to an AED machine
- access to Narcan (medication for Opioid overdose)
- access to EpiPen (medicate for severe allergic reaction)
The District shall provide for the management of illness (Policy 5310, Policy 5335, Policy 8450, and Policy 8453), accidental injury (Policy 5340 and Policy 5341), and the administration of medication and emergency care (Policy 5330).
The District Administrator in cooperation with the school nurse shall develop guidelines that will provide student emergency information cards, equipment, supplies, and space for the emergency nursing services that are appropriate and readily accessible. The District Administrator in cooperation with the school nurse shall annually identify a medical advisor.
The District shall make available emergency student information, first aid supplies, and appropriate and accessible space for the rendering of emergency nursing services.
This policy has been reviewed by a school nurse in cooperation with other school district personnel and representatives from community health agencies and services. The school nurse shall review and evaluate emergency nursing services each year, including a review of the policies referenced above, and shall report to the Board regarding such services and bring proposed revisions of any policies to the District Administrator who will review and forward such revisions to the Board for consideration.
