4216 - SUPPORT STAFF DRESS AND APPEARANCE

The Board believes that support staff members are an important and integral part of the District. Also, since the support staff is highly-visible staff to the students, the professional staff, and the public, the Board believes the support staff should set an example in dress and appearance for students to follow. Support staff members who understand this precept and adhere to it enlarge the importance of their task, present an image of dignity, and encourage respect.

The Board retains the authority to specify the following dress and appearance guidelines for support staff that promote a professional educational atmosphere that gives consideration to the impact on the educational process and the diversity of the District. The Board will make reasonable accommodations for dress and appearance as it relates to an employee's religion, ethnicity, and disability so long as it does not present a safety concern or other undue hardship.

When assigned to District duty, all support staff members shall:

  1. be physically clean, neat, and well groomed;

  2. dress in a manner consistent with their support responsibilities;

  3. dress in a manner that communicates to others a pride in personal appearance;

  4. dress in a manner that does not cause damage to District property;

  5. present themselves in such a way that their dress or hairstyle does not disrupt the educational process or cause a health or safety hazard.

Employee Identification Badges

The District shall provide employees with an employee identification badge. Employee identification badges are an important part of employee work attire. They allow students, parents, coworkers, vendors and the public to know who employees are. They are an important part of providing a secure environment for our students.

Employees must wear their employee identification badges in a visible spot during their contracted work time.

Jewelry and Body Art

Jewelry and body art worn by support staff members must contribute to a professional educational atmosphere that gives consideration to the impact on the educational process and does not otherwise create a disruption of the learning environment.
