3216 - PROFESSIONAL STAFF DRESS AND APPEARANCE

The Board believes that professional staff members set an example in dress and appearance for their students to follow. A professional staff member who understands this precept and adheres to it enlarges the importance of his/her task, presents an image of dignity, and encourages respect for authority. These factors act in a positive manner toward the maintenance of discipline.

The Board retains the authority to specify the following dress and appearance guidelines for professional staff that promote a professional educational atmosphere that gives consideration to the impact on the educational process and the diversity of the District. The Board will make reasonable accommodations for dress and appearance as it relates to an employee's religion, ethnicity, and disability so long as it does not present a safety concern or other undue hardship.

When assigned to District duty, all professional staff members shall:

  1. be physically clean, neat, and well groomed;

  2. dress in a manner consistent with their professional responsibilities;

  3. dress in a manner that communicates to students a pride in personal appearance;

  4. dress in a manner that does not cause damage to District property;

  5. present themselves in such a way that their hair style or dress does not disrupt the educational process nor cause a health or safety hazard.

  6. professional dress is expected Monday through Thursday; Fridays can be casual dress day for the staff.

Employee Identification Badges

The District shall provide employees with an employee identification badge. Employee identification badges are an important part of employee work attire. They allow students, parents, coworkers, vendors and the public to know who employees are. They are an important part of providing a secure environment for our students.

Employees must wear their employee identification badges in a visible spot during their contracted work time.

Jewelry and Body Art

Jewelry and body art worn by professional staff members must contribute to a professional educational atmosphere that gives consideration to the impact on the educational process and does not otherwise create a disruption of the learning environment.
