0141.1 - STUDENT REPRESENTATION AT BOARD MEETINGS

The Board acknowledges the important contributions students can make to the governance of the schools. The Board believes that student participation at Board meetings can provide a better understanding of the needs and concerns of students. The Board, therefore, welcomes a student representative to the Board.

The student representative(s) or the alternate in the absence of the representative shall:

  1. represent all students of the District.
  2. be a member of the junior or senior class.
  3. serve on a school year basis beginning in September.

The representative shall:

  1. be approved by the Board.
  2. be selected by the high school Student Council.
  3. be encouraged to sit at the Board table and enter into discussions, answer questions in the same manner as elected Board members.
  4. participate during the regular open meetings of the Board.

The student representative is encouraged to communicate with the students in  all the schools in the District.

The student representative shall not vote on matters that come before the Board and/or participate in closed sessions of the Board.

Orientation of Student Representative

An orientation meeting shall be held with the new student representative:

  1. explaining the Board's role and purpose;
  2. explaining the student representative's role on the Board.
