8500.01 - FOOD SERVICE MANAGEMENT

The school lunch program is an integral part of the total education program, and as such shall be governed by the same principles and type of control as any other division of the school system.

The District shall provide lunches through participation in the National School Lunch Program. The administrator shall enter into an agreement with the Department of Public Instruction and the federal government for participation in such child nutrition programs.

As required for participation in the National School Lunch Program, the District agrees to the following:

  1. That a school lunch meeting Federal regulations be made available for all students.

  2. That free and reduced price lunches be offered to eligible students who apply and who meet the federal income guideline.

The administrator is responsible for the management of the school lunch program, including the purchase of food and materials. The administrator may delegate specific duties in relation to the school food service programs to the Food Service Supervisor.

The District may also participate in the Food Distribution Program, the School Breakfast Program, Elderly Lunch Program, and the nutrition education and training program.

Food services programs shall be reviewed annually.

The District shall not discriminate in school sponsored food service programs on the basis of sex, race, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, physical, mental, emotional or learning disability or handicap. Discrimination complaints shall be processed in accordance with established procedures.

In the elementary grades, 4K-4 all children shall be encouraged to drink a half-pint of milk during the day.

Prices for extra milk will be set by the Board.
