4432 - EMPLOYEE PAID TIME OFF
Employees are eligible to use Paid Time Off (PTO) benefits in accordance with this policy. PTO benefits may be used for absences from a scheduled work day due to an employee's illness, vacation, or for personal reasons up to the maximum amount of paid time off available to the employee pursuant to this policy. Absences in excess of available PTO are considered leave without pay. (See Policy 4430)
The purpose of providing PTO instead of separate sick leave, and personal leave, is to provide flexibility in the usage of time off. However, employees are expected to provide advanced notice of an intent to use PTO to the greatest extent possible to allow the District to make suitable arrangements whenever necessary, recognizing that use of PTO for absences due to illness may not allow for much advanced notice. Employee use of PTO for reasons that are also covered by the District's FMLA policy may be designated as FMLA leave (See Policy 4430.01). Employees will be limited to four (4) or (5) consecutive PTO days within a three (3) year rolling period outside of FMLA qualifying events. This must be requested no less than five (5) days in advance.
Amount of Leave Available
Each member of the support staff employed on a full-time basis shall be entitled to seven, ten, or twelve (7, 10, or 12) days of PTO based on position held within the district as of the first day of employment of each fiscal year.
Conversion to PTO Program
All accrued but unused periods of paid time off shall be converted to PTO as of 7/1/2023. No time already earned will be lost, however, no additional PTO will accrue beyond the maximum allowed accrual amount.
Carryover of Unused PTO
Unused PTO may be carried over for use by the employee in future years. Employees may accrue up to a total of ninety (90) days of PTO.
Accrued PTO at End of Employment
Employees that have accrued but unused PTO and have completed at least ten (10) consecutive years of service will receive a cash payout to upon departure from employment for the following reasons:
- retirement
- voluntary resignation
