8850 - ELECTIONS/POLITICAL LITERATURE
Political campaigning shall not occur on school property. Candidates, if not campaigning, may attend school events. Parents, who are running for a political office, will not relinquish any of their parental rights. School Board members who are running for re-election shall not campaign, but may visit our schools as part of their normal School Board duties.
Political debates may be held on school property if approved by the Superintendent.
If approved by the Superintendent, employees may campaign and distribute political literature on school grounds to support school referendums prior to the adoption of any preliminary determination resolution by the Board of School Trustees, and as otherwise authorized by Indiana Code.
Political literature is defined as material supporting or opposing one (1) or more candidates, political parties, or election issues.
Political literature shall not be displayed or distributed on school property unless it is part of a teaching unit.
When school facilities are used as a polling place, State regulation will be followed with respect to political activities and the distribution of political literature on school property.
A school employee may not use any school funds, equipment, goods, or materials (including mail and messaging systems) or work time to solicit a contribution, advocate for the election or defeat of a candidate, or advocate for the approval or defeat of a ballot question, and may not distribute political literature on school property during regular work hours.
Administration will not direct the use any Corporation resources to endorse or support any candidacy. Political candidates will not be featured and/or highlighted on School Corporation media from the day they file to run for an office until Election Day.
