6150.01 - IN-DISTRICT STUDENT TRANSFERS
The School Board shall accept in-district student transfers provided the transfer request is compliant with the terms and policies stated below. A transfer approval is required anytime a student wishes to attend a school and legal settlement of the guardian does not reside within the requested school attendance zone.
Parents are responsible for all transportation services to and from school or students who have been granted a transfer. The Superintendent may approve transportation, in special and unique circumstances, provided space is available.
The Superintendent may approve the following in-county transfers:
Child Care transfers - May be granted a child care transfer if it does not create class size issue within the school.
Continuation transfers - May be granted to any student who has attended the school the past year.
Health transfers - May be granted for documented health-related reasons. Documentation from a licensed physician is required before all health-related transfers can be considered.
Imminent Move transfers - May be given to students who are moving or building a home within the School Corporation. Documentation proving the "imminent move" must be provided before the request will be considered. A move will be considered "imminent" if the move is complete within eighteen (18) weeks from the initial request of transfer.
Best Interest of Child transfers - May be granted if it is in the best interest of the child. The Superintendent may require documentation depending upon the circumstances of the situation.
Transfers may not be granted in the following situations:
False information was provided by the parent when applying for a transfer.
The student was suspended or expelled during the past twelve (12) months:
For ten (10) or more school days;
For violation of I.C. 20-33-8-16 involving firearms, destructive devices, or weapons;
For causing physical injury to a student, school employee, or visitor to the school; or
For a violation of the Corporation’s drug or alcohol policy rules.
Transfers will be reviewed each year to see if there is an attendance problem or any issue with tardiness.
Students who move to another school attendance zone within the Corporation or outside the District may continue to attend the school for the rest of the year without seeking a transfer. It is essential that parents inform the school of the new address.
