0144.1 - COMPENSATION

The annual compensation for each Board member shall be the amount authorized by I.C. 20-26-4-7.

Each member of the Board of School Trustees shall be entitled to receive a per diem; the amount of such will be that authorized by I.C. 20-26-4-7 for attendance at each regular meeting of the Board. Attendance of a Board member shall be determined by the record as reflected in the minutes of the meeting.

Each Board member attending a special meeting of the Board, executive session, work session, or Board committee meeting shall be entitled to the per diem at the committee meeting rate established by I.C. 20-26-4-7. The stipulated per diem amount shall not exceed the rate approved for members of the Board of Commissioners of the Indianapolis Public Schools.  These rates will be adopted annually as part of the board reorganization resolution.

Expenses of a Board member shall be reimbursed when incurred in the performance of duties and functions authorized by the Board and accompanied by original or copy of the receipt and/or approved State Board of Accounts forms.

The following guidelines have been established by the Board to ensure appropriate and proper reimbursement of expenses for Board members.

  1. Reimbursement for mileage shall not exceed the current rate established for School Corporation employees.
  2. Attendance at Board-approved conferences should be at the location closest to the Corporation.
  3. When attending a Board-approved conference, all fees, parking, mileage, meals, and lodging shall be reimbursed.
  4. When the Board attends a community or school-related event as a Board function, or if a Board member attends as the designated representative of the Board, any incurred expenses, including mileage, shall be reimbursed by the Board. If a Board member attends such events as a private citizen, any incurred expenses are to be paid by the Board member.
  5. No entertainment expenses or purchases of alcoholic beverages are reimbursable.
  6. A voucher detailing the amount and nature of each expense shall be submitted to the Board for approval

In accordance with I.C. 5-10-8-1, members of the Board of School Trustees and their eligible dependents may elect to enroll in the health, dental, vision and/or life insurance programs provided by the School Corporation.  Premiums for elected coverage will be deducted from quarterly compensation.  Any premiums in excess of compensation, School Board Members will make a payment to the School Corporation for that amount quarterly as well.
