3170.01 - EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)

The Manitowoc Public School District cares about the well-being of its employees and recognizes that a variety of personal problems can disrupt their personal and work lives. Through its Employee Assistance Program (EAP), the District provides access to professional counseling services for its employees.

The Manitowoc Public School District recognizes that it has no right to interfere with employees’ personal lives unless those personal problems adversely affect their job performance or are contrary to school policy. Consequently, a supervisor or District representative may encourage an employee to utilize the EAP if the supervisor or District representative believes an employee’s job performance is affected by a personal problem.

Employees should be aware that they will be responsible for complying with the EAP service’s recommendations and treatment plans. An employee’s continued refusal to accept referral and treatment will be handled by dealing with the job problem according to normal disciplinary procedures.

Employees are expected to perform their job in a satisfactory manner. Failure to utilize the services of the EAP will not excuse an employee from performing their job duties in a acceptable manner. Similarly, enrollment in or treatment by the EAP will not excuse an employee from adhering to school employment standards.
