5430 - CLASS RANK/LAUDE SYSTEM

The Board authorizes the use of the Laude honor point system.

The Mauston High School will rank and recognize graduating seniors through the Laude System. The Laude System acknowledges student achievement through a combination of student Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) at the end of seven (7) semesters and the number of honor class points completed in their high school career. Their CGPA and honor points make up their overall Laude score, which places them into one (1) of the possible Laude distinctions: Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude.

The Laude distinctions of Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude criteria will be published annually in The Laude System brochure and the high school course of study guide.

A grade point average will be determined in conjunction with the Laude System as well as reasons related to post-secondary opportunities, including the Academic and Technical Excellence Scholarships, and the University of Wisconsin Guaranteed Admission Program.

University of Wisconsin Guaranteed Admission Program

The class rank for students completing 11th grade shall be based on the GPA calculated pursuant to this policy and shall identify students in the top five percent (5%) and the top ten percent (10%) of the class. Once the class rank is established, the District Administrator shall notify each student ranked in the top ten percent (10%) of their ranking in either the top five percent (5%) or ten percent (10%) of the class and shall note the applicable ranking on the student's transcript as of the completion of grade 11.

Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship

Grade point average for purposes of the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship program will be calculated using the determinations made in this policy and in Policy 5451.01 – Wisconsin Academic Excellence Scholarship.
