0142.7 - ORIENTATION

The Board believes that the preparation of each Board member for the performance of Board duties is essential to the effective functioning of the Board. The Board shall encourage each new Board member to understand the functions of the Board, acquire knowledge of matters related to the operation of the District, and learn Board procedures.

The Board and the administrative staff shall assist each new member-elect to understand the Board's functions, policies, and procedures before the new member's takes office. The following methods shall be employed: 

  1. The member-elect or appointed member shall be given materials available relating to the position as a member of the Board.
  2. The member-elect or appointed member shall be invited to attend Board meetings.
  3. The administrators shall supply materials pertinent to meetings and shall explain their use.
  4. The member-elect or appointed member shall be invited to meet with the Superintendent and other administrative personnel and members of the Board to discuss responsibilities and jobs they perform for the Board.
  5. The member-elect or appointed member may initiate conferences with the Board members and the administration to become current on district matters.
  6. The Superintendent will review board policies with the member-elect or appointed member, including internet access and availability of paper copies upon request.

The Board shall encourage the attendance of each new Board member at orientation and training meetings.
