6155 - LUNCH CHARGE

The Greensburg Community Schools' Food Services is self-supporting. We receive no money from the District's General Fund budget or property taxes. Food Service is funded only from Federal reimbursement and student payments to pay operating expenses and fees. By Federal law, Food Service revenues need to meet or exceed expenditures. Therefore, unpaid charges and unlimited alternative meals would affect the ability of the Greensburg Community School Food Service to support itself.

Food Service Department meal charge procedure goals are:

  1. to treat all students with dignity in the serving line regarding meal accounts;

  2. to support positive situations with District staff, District business policies, students and parents to the maximum extent possible;

  3. to encourage parents to assume the responsibility of meal payments;

  4. to establish a consistent District procedure regarding charges and collection of charges.

Cafeteria policy for Greensburg Community School students:

  1. A letter is sent home after the students account is $10.00 negative. Prompt payment is expected to return to account to a positive balance.

  2. A second letter is sent home after the students account is $50.00 negative. A free and reduced lunch application will accompany notification of the negative balance. Upon return of the application, you will be notified if your child qualifies for free or reduced lunch prices.

  3. If no attempt is made to satisfy the debt, the debt will be settled in small claims court.

Students with any negative amount are not allowed to purchase a la carte items, including milk.
