4216 - PERSONAL APPEARANCE/STAFF DRESS CODE

District employees are judged not only by their service but also by their appearance. It is the District’s expectation that every employee’s appearance is consistent with the high standards we set for ourselves as a District. Employees are expected to present a professional appearance and to practice good personal hygiene. Remember, to our students, parents, and the public, employees represent the District. Proper attire establishes creditability. Respect in the classroom begins with appearance. Support staff are an important role model for students, and appropriate dress sends a positive message.

The District expects that all employees are neat, and clean, and wear appropriate dress for work that is in good taste and suitable for the job at hand. The District will not tolerate dress or attire from school employees that the principal or supervisor considers disruptive, inappropriate, or which adversely affects the educational atmosphere. Employees should not wear suggestive attire, blue jeans, T-shirts, athletic clothing, shorts, flip-flops or similar beach footwear, novelty buttons, baseball hats, and similar items of casual attire that do not present a businesslike appearance. Tattoos and body piercings (other than earrings) should not be disruptive. Employees should not wear clothing that reveals excessive portions of the torso (e.g. cleavage, bare midriff). Staff should not wear leggings without having another garment covering your backside. Staff members working in a shop or gym environment should dress appropriately to the duties but keeping in mind professional attire.

At its discretion, administration may allow employees to dress in a more casual fashion than is normally required. On these special occasions, employees are still expected to present a neat appearance and are not permitted to wear ripped or disheveled clothing or similarly inappropriate clothing.

Any designated employees (food service, et al) shall not wear open-toed or slip-on shoes during regular work hours.
