REGULATIONS FOR ADDING A SPORT (ds)

2431.01 - REGULATIONS FOR ADDING A SPORT

Recognizing that sports are a legitimate, integral element of the overall school program and that sports have an educational value to students, the following guidelines and criteria have been established for the addition of a sport to the District's athletic program.

In assessing the request to add a sport, including the resumption of an inactive sport, the following criteria will be used to evaluate a request:

  1. Description of the group's proposed activities.
  2. The sport must be an organized interscholastic competition at the regional and state levels and sanctioned by the WIAA or a similar sanctioning body.
  3. Sufficient interest:  certification of demonstrated interest in participation with a required minimum of participants for a team."
  4. The Athletic Director will meet with the interested participants and supporters to assess the needs and the long-term viability of the sport in the District.
  5. Identification of budget needs, both initially and annually.
  6. Available and appropriate facilities.
  7. Available qualified coach approved by the Athletic Director and administration.
  8. Athletic Director and/or representatives of the proposed sport will make a presentation to the Board of Education seeking approval of the new sport.

General Guidelines:

  1. The Athletic Director shall be responsible for the general administration and management of the sport.
  2. The Athletic Directo shall act as the agent for purchasing materials or services and scheduling for the sport.
  3. The Athletic Director shall evaluate the status of the sport annually and make recommendations to the administration and Board of Education.
  4. Final approval of all requests rests with the Board of Education, with competition to begin the following school year.
