0144.1 - COMPENSATION
Board members will be compensated at a rate of $95 per regular meeting attended, special meeting attended, committee meeting attended, and workshop, unless the member has provided timely annual notice of refusal to accept the salary. Notice must be provided prior to taking the oath of office and performing any service for the initial year of election or appointment, and may be renewed for subsequent years by notice at least thirty (30) days prior to the member's taxable year, unless statutory exceptions apply. Board members not included in the preceding sentence may refuse to accept the salary by providing notice to the Board Clerk and Treasurer at least thirty (30) days before the start of the Board member's next taxable year. Although the notification applies only to that taxable year, Board members may renew the refusal to accept the salary by sending timely annual notification. Board members attending conferences, workshops, meetings, conventions, or other approved Board business for full days will be compensated at a rate of $150. The compensation will be increased by $15 for a regular meeting and a full day meeting every three (3) years starting with the 2022-2023 school year.
Board members shall be reimbursed at the I.R.S. rate per mile when driving their personal vehicles to and from approved School Board activities, workshops, conventions, or business. If a school van is used for multiple Board or administrative passengers, other administrators or Board members will not be reimbursed for personal mileage unless authorized by specific Board action. Board members will be reimbursed up to the District maximum for all other actual and necessary expenses for approved School Board business, upon the submission of receipts and expense reimbursement sheet.
If a Board member attends more than one (1) regular, special and/or committee meeting in a single day, they shall be compensated as follows:
- If the meetings run consecutively, the member shall be compensated for one (1) meeting.
- If the meetings are not consecutive, the member shall be compensated at the full rate for the first meeting, and one-half (1/2) of the full rate for any other meetings on the same day.
If any regular, special and/or committee meeting runs longer than six (6) hours, the Board member(s) shall be reimbursed at the "all day" meeting rate.
Board members who serve on such committees or councils as those appointed by the Governor or State Superintendent of Schools, or an officer with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, will seek reimbursement for their expenses from the group that they serve. If Board members attend any representative meeting without being appointed to the group, they are not eligible for compensation or expenses unless authorized by specific Board action.
