9230 - GIFTS, GRANTS, AND BEQUESTS

The Board is duly appreciative of public interest in and good will toward the schools manifested through gifts, grants, and bequests. The Board reserves the right, however, to specify the manner in which gifts are made; to define the type of gift, grant, or bequest which it considers appropriate; and to reject those which it deems inappropriate or unsuitable. If accepted, the Board will attempt to carry out the wishes of the donor. The Board recognizes the Brevard Schools Foundation (also known as the Foundation) as the District’s sole non-profit organization established to receive and disburse contributions to the schools. All cash and in-kind donations to schools from corporations or individuals above $250 should be funneled through the Foundation, so the required charitable tax documentation can be supplied to the donor and the District and maintain accurate records of donations for auditing purposes. The Foundation’s books are required to be submitted to the Auditor General as part of the District’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

Gifts, grants, and bequests shall become the property of the Board and/or the Foundation and will be subject to use by the District as determined by the policies and administrative procedures applying to all properties, equipment, materials, and funds owned by the Board and/or Foundation.

Any equipment proposed to be purchased by a parent organization for use in the school or at a District-related event shall be submitted to the principal of the school, prior to purchase, so it can determine if the District would incur any liability by its use.

All equipment must follow the District's procedures for maintenance, installation, and proper property inventory procedures.

The Board reserves the right to not accept such liability and thus deny the use of the equipment by students or District employees.
