7540.11 - ELECTRONIC DATA CONFIDENTIALITY
- The intent of this policy is to assist employees in securing the District's confidential data in any and all computing devices. These include, but are not limited to laptops, wireless communication devices (WCD), USBs, and personally owned computing devices. Confidential data includes, but is not limited to, student records; social security numbers; and health, financial information, and other personally identifiable information.
- This policy authorizes the Superintendent or designee to establish, through administrative procedures associated with this policy, a minimum data encryption standard for use in any and all computing devices containing confidential data. Today’s computing devices are highly mobile. Wireless communication devices (WCD) are frequently transported to and from the work place, and in such instances encryption will mitigate the loss of confidential data in the event the device is lost or stolen.
- All business data stored on any nonDistrict-owned computing device is subject to the same public records laws as District-owned devices. The District complies with all Federal and State laws governing data protection.
