5880 - PUBLIC PERFORMANCES BY STUDENTS

The Board recognizes the value to students of sharing their talents and skills with the community through participation and performances in public events.

The Board endorses such performances when:

  1. they constitute a learning experience which contributes to the educational program;

  2. the circumstances of the event do not pose a threat to the health, safety, and well-being of the students who will be involved.

All requests for public performances by students require the approval of the principal.

A school group may not participate in or perform for partisan political events or for religious sponsored activities of a denominational nature but will be allowed to participate in performances which honor an office of State or national importance. School groups may be used for school activities, civic programs, and community benefit programs. No group shall participate in a commercial project without the consent of the Board.

The Superintendent shall be responsible for developing administrative procedures to implement this policy which include the requirement that parental permission is sought and received before students participate and that the interests of the District's students are to be protected and guarded against exploitation.
