5845 - STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Junior high/middle school bands, orchestra, and choral groups shall participate only in activities within the School District and/or sanctioned by the FMEA and FHSAA. School bands and/or performing groups may be requested for special civic or government functions when school is not in session. Transportation costs to non-school functions may be paid by the sponsoring agency. No music group shall participate in a commercial project.
Uniforms shall be restricted to garments comparable to normal street wear in order that the same can be provided by parents with little or no extra cost.
Activities for other performing groups such as cheerleaders, pom poms, drill teams, majorettes, etc., shall be limited to the School District. However, the Superintendent may annually approve a group to attend two (2) activities out of the School District, but within the State of Florida. Activities outside of the State of Florida are discouraged. Requests for trips outside of Florida must be merited by outstanding performance and must be approved by the Superintendent and Board. No performing group shall participate in a commercial project.
The Board grants any school the right to organize a school safety patrol. Such a group shall have authority only to instruct, direct, and control students at street crossing in or near the school, on school grounds, or within the building.
