2412 - HOMEBOUND INSTRUCTION PROGRAM
The Board may provide, pursuant to rules of the State Board of Education, individual instruction to students who are unable to attend classes because of accident, illness, or disability.
Documentation of the disabling condition shall be done by a physician licensed to practice in this State who shall certify that the patient:
is unable to attend school;
is expected to be absent from school for at least fifteen (15) consecutive school days;
has a chronic condition and is expected to be absent for at least fifteen (15) school days which will not run consecutively;
will be able to participate in and benefit from an instructional program;
can receive an instructional program without endangering the health of the instructor or other student with whom the instructor may come in contact;
is under school age and may benefit from homebound/hospitalized instruction.
Applications must be approved by the Director of Student Services, Exceptional Student Education or designee.
The District retains the right to schedule the time and place that homebound instruction will be provided.
The program of homebound instruction given each student shall be in accordance with rules of the State Board of Education with such exceptions as may be recommended by the Individual Education Plan (I.E.P.) Team. Procedures for the implementation of this program may be found in the Special Programs and Procedures for Exceptional Students and the Brevard County Plan for Exceptional Student Education. Teachers shall hold a Florida teaching certificate appropriate for the level of instruction for which the assignment is made.
