2262 - SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE

The Superintendent shall establish administrative procedures that will ensure that:

  1. prior to the creation and approval of any school age child care program, parents and other members of the community are provided an opportunity to make recommendations on the operation and funding of the program;

  2. programs and services are available to participating students both prior to the start of the regular school day and after school. The time periods should be scheduled so that a student may participate from the time s/he leaves a supervised environment until s/he may return to one;

  3. the program emphasis is on providing educational opportunities and a variety of activities that promote the development of children in the program;

  4. adequate attention is provided to an environment that meets the needs and well-being of children;

    The safety and security of students is protected. Programs ensure children are being clothed, fed, and have an opportunity for a variety of physical activities. Policies and procedures are in place to protect the safety of students.

  5. any organization(s) contracted with to provide these programs has acquired adequate liability insurance and is maintaining appropriate adult-child ratios, providing quality child care, and, in general, complying with procedures established by the State and the District;

  6. parents and families are notified about the program and the procedures for enrollment;

  7. there is continuing assessment of the effectiveness of the program by staff, participating parents, and other stakeholders.

The Superintendent shall develop and update as needed administrative procedures to implement this policy.
