3120F - ADJUNCT CERTIFICATION

Pursuant to F.S. 1012.57, Certification of adjunct educators, and 1012.56 (2)(a)-(f) and (h) and (10), Educator certification requirements, Brevard Public Schools has outlined the following process, eligibility and requirements for issuing adjunct teacher certificates. Per Board Policy 3120(IV)(F), Employment of Instructional Staff, District Adjunct certified educators are considered instructional staff.

  1. Eligibility requirements for a District Adjunct Certificate are as follows:
     
    1. Age: Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
    2. FDOE License: Educators eligible for a Florida Educator Certificate cannot be issued a District Adjunct Certificate.
    3. Education: Hold a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
       
      1. Official college transcripts are required if not already on file.
    4. Subject Expertise: Demonstrate expertise in the subject area to be taught by passing the appropriate Florida subject area exam.
       
      1. The certificate cannot be issued for subjects without a Florida subject area exam.
      2. District Adjunct Teaching Certificate cannot be issued for the following subjects: Educational Leadership, Reading K-12, School Counseling, School Psychologist, School Social Worker and Speech and Language Impaired K-12.
      3. Exam scores must be valid and passed within the last ten (10) years.
      4. Official exam scores may be requested.
      5. ESOL Requirements: Must meet all ESOL requirements based on the subject taught and the presence of ELL students.
      6. Endorsements:  If an educator met subject/endorsement mastery of endorsements and were on the educators FDOE Certificate, the endorsement(s) may be listed on the adjunct certificate.
  2. Educator obligations are, but not limited, to:
     
    1. Professional Learning: Must complete professional learning as required by school administration.
    2. Certification Documentation: Must provide documentation of meeting FDOE requirements to earn the FDOE Professional Certificate.
    3. Yearly obligation(s):  It is the educator’s responsibility to provide documentation by April 1 of each school year to Certificationdept@Brevardschools.org including but not limited to:
       
      1. Effective/Highly Effective Summative II ratings.
      2. FTCE Test Scores.
      3. College courses – Official transcripts only!

The District Adjunct certificate is valid for up to five (5) years and is non-renewable. Teaching out-of-field is not permitted with this certificate.
