3120.10 - JOB SHARING

Job sharing shall be defined as two (2) unit members sharing one (1) full-time position. Job sharing assignments shall be filled only by unit members, full-time employees who have agreed to work together under a mutually developed plan, either fifty (50)/fifty (50) or sixty (60)/forty (40). Job sharing assignments shall have a duration of one (1) year.

Teachers wishing to job share shall be responsible for finding another appropriate certified teacher to be a job share partner. The Principal shall maintain a list of teachers willing to job share.

  1. Job sharers shall submit a written description of job sharing arrangements to the Principal no later than March 1st each year. Decisions of approval or denial by the Principal shall be made no later than March 15th each year. Responsibilities of a shared assignment must be specified in the plan designed by the job sharers. This plan should include but not be limited to:

    1. teaching responsibilities
    2. schedule of work hours and/or days (fifty (50)/fifty (50) or sixty (60)/forty (40)
    3. planning time arrangements
    4. joint planning time arrangements
    5. procedures for parent conferences
    6. field trip proposals
    7. recommended methods of coverage for emergencies/absences
    8. measures of student success
  2. The Principal shall objectively review the application and may determine the efficacy of the request.
  3. The approval of a job sharing arrangement shall be promptly submitted to the Chief Human Resources Officer/Director of Labor Relations in writing by the Principal.

For those already involved in a job sharing arrangement, by March 1st they must notify their school's Principal in writing of their intent to continue or discontinue the job sharing assignment for the following school year.

To fulfill their professional responsibilities, the teachers who job share may be required, with advanced notice by the principal, to schedule joint conferences or to attend faculty meetings or in-service beyond the modified work day.

  1. Both teachers shall be involved in designated student activities, open house, parent conferences, and other special events.
  2. Both teachers shall be required to attend all the pre-school work days at the school site.
  3. Both teachers shall be in attendance the first and last day of school.

Should a teacher in a job sharing position wish to resign, the remaining teacher shall become a full-time teacher.

When possible, the job sharers shall substitute for each other's absences. Job sharers may recommend methods for providing coverage in emergencies and include this feature in their annual plan. The teacher substituting shall receive the appropriate hourly substitute rate.

Failure by one or both job sharing participants to fulfill any of the components of the provisions listed herein shall result in the nullification of the job sharing agreement. The teachers shall be then placed in positions for which they are certified.

Support staff wishing to job share shall be responsible for finding another qualified employee to be a job share partner. Support staff job sharers shall submit a written description of job sharing arrangements to the department director. All support staff job sharing decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
