2270 - RELIGION IN THE CURRICULUM

The Board has adopted a policy supporting the understanding of religions and their effects on civilization by the students. When developing or implementing any course of study which involves religion, the following procedures should be followed:

  1. Course content can neither inhibit nor advance any religion.

  2. The use of art, literature, and music descriptive of the religion shall not, by itself, bar their use by the District.

  3. Curriculum may include, as appropriate to the various ages and attainments of students, instructions about world religions.

  4. Students should receive unbiased instruction in the schools.

  5. Student absences for religious holidays are excused absences.

  6. Student absences excused for religious holidays will require that all educational requirements for the course be met before a passing grade and/or credit is assigned. The student shall have a reasonable amount of time up to ten (10) school days to make up work for the excused absences. Principals may grant extensions to make up time limit for extenuating circumstances.
