5451 - STUDENT AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

Students in the school district shall be informed annually through the Student Services Department of any available scholarships and awards.

Literature concerning available scholarships and awards shall be included in the Student Handbook, made available in the Student Services Office, and/or posted in the school building.

Criteria for school district awards and scholarships shall be developed consistent with school district goals and objectives. Criteria for nondistrict awards and scholarships shall be established by the individual donors and shall be publicized by the Guidance Department and adhered to by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

It is the philosophy of the Board of Education that scholarship monies should be distributed to as many qualified students as possible in order to provide post-secondary opportunities to the largest number of students possible.

A Scholarship Selection Committee called the Barron Area Educational Foundation will select three (3) foundation members to evaluate and award scholarships.

The Barron Area School District shall not discriminate in acceptance and administration of gifts, bequests, scholarships and other aids, benefits or services to students from private agencies, organizations or persons on the basis of sex, race, religion, national origin, color, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, physical, mental, emotional or learning disability or handicap. Discrimination complaints shall be processed in accordance with established procedures.
