3419.05 - POST-RETIREMENT HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE

In appreciation to employees who retire from the Barron Area School District after meeting the early retirement vesting requirements (age 55 and 10 years of service to the district), employees shall be allowed to continue participation in the employee group health insurance program under the established conditions. Post-retirement health coverage is extended to the employee and/or their spouse at the time of retirement from the district. The extended coverage option ceases if the District no longer provides group health coverage to any of its employees or the retiree/spouse reaches Medicare eligibility. Employees who retire from the district but do not meet the established vesting requirements for early retirement are eligible to stay on the health insurance program via COBRA.

Extension of health insurance benefits provisions under Federal and State law also will apply. The intent of this section is to supplement and not supplant Federal and State law. Federal and State law will prevail in areas of dispute.
